     Instructor:  Renee Blanco

Semester: 2026-S4 Track: Obedience  Type: Class

This course is designed with the Obedience Competitor in mind and will focus primarily on preparation for Companion Dog Trials. All candidates will be working primarily off-leash and must have off-leash concepts mastered. The class will set up and practice specifically for trials covering, registration, treat reduction and all concepts necessary to create well-mannered competitors. Weekly class goals will depend on the skill of the student competitors and may vary from class to class.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Super Advanced candidates must be able to demonstrate positive control of their dogs with and without the leash. The handler must be able to hold the dog’s Attention Focus for 3 minutes in the presence of distractions with the minimal use of treats; 3 minute SIT STAY away from the dog; 3 minute DOWN STAY without the presence of the handler; must be able to demonstrate a proper return and a RECALL off-leash without a long line. Strong Leave It and Wait are a must, as are STAND, FINISH, FIGURE-8 and HEEL (in an off-leash environment).

Candidates who are still mastering off-leash concepts but who demonstrate good skills in ADVANCED are welcome as long as their dog does not pose a significant risk to the dogs that are already completely off-leash. Training Tabs may be utilized. Long Lines may be used. Please bring your own.

Dogs at this level should already possess the Canine Good Citizen Urban award.

Semester: 2026-S4 Track: Obedience  Type: Class

This class is for dogs at least 6 months of age. This is an excellent class to begin your leadership skill development.

Beginner is an ideal class for preparing to obtain your CGC. Capacity:  6 handler/dog pairs

Semester: 2026-S4 Track: Obedience  Type: Class

This course will continue building on the foundation of OCC’s Beginner class moving towards randomizing reward structure and differentiating between bribery vs rewards. Initial focus will be on transitioning perfect loose leash walking into the more formal Heel with the automatic Sit, emphasizing Halts and pace changes as well as directional turns. Integrating the process of helping your dog learn to generalize and hold longer commands, we will work on Attention Focus duration, Sit Stay durations, Down Stay durations, and the Stand (without Handler support) and work towards Handling in the Stand-Stay.

Included are the Intro into a Figure-8 exercise, perfecting the Finish, Long Line Recalls, the Greeting Exercise Game and other Learning Challenges for a fun learning experience. Heavy emphasis on preparing for the CGC-Exam, but challenging enough for the dog that has already earned his/her CGC!

Part 2 of a 2-part class. This indoor class will build on the skills learned in AGC 100 Agility 1 Foundations: Part A in teaching dog-handler teams foundational agility skills and safety. The curriculum is based on shaping behaviors through the use of positive reinforcement. Activities include start line stay, body awareness and flexibility, impulse control, introduction to contact end behavior, targeting/nose touch, directions, and handling “on the flat.” Dogs will continue to interact with equipment such as wobble board, tunnel, table, 2x2 weaves, and wing jumps (bars will be on the ground for puppies or very low for adult dogs). Dog-handler teams will begin sequencing with multiple obstacles.

Dogs must be fitted with a flat buckle collar and a six-foot leash. No choke, pinch, gentle leaders or corrective harnesses will be allowed. Owners need to bring lots of small, soft treats and A CRATE.

    Track: Obedience  Type: Test

Let your dog steal the show! AKC Trick Dog Elite Performer (TKE) testing is your chance to showcase your dog's skills, creativity, and personality in front of a live audience while working toward your next Trick Dog title.

AKC Trick Dog is one of AKC’s most popular training programs because trick training is fun for both dogs and their trainers.

Tricks are behaviors that are designed to entertain others. AKC Trick Dog ranges from very simple novice tricks such as teaching your dog to get in a box on cue, to complex tricks that are several behaviors chained together in one exciting sequence. The Trick Dog Elite Performer test confirms demonstration of a routine that has a story/script, using at least five props.

Testers are required to bring their own props.

For more information, please visit the AKC website.

Testing will be held between the Membership Meeting and the Board Meeting. Because timing is important, a registration code is required. Please contact the Training Director to obtain a code and schedule your performance time. We look forward to watching you and your dog perform!

Portable Operant Research Training Lab (PORTL) is much like the demonstration game in Orientation. A PORTL event is two individuals, one acting as the "trainer" and one acting as the student working together to create a structure using only a clicker. You will learn how to communicate quickly and efficiently with your canine companion during your training time. WARNING: THIS GAME IS ADDICTIVE! There are many levels of PORTL. Most who have experienced this learning event want to do it again...and again...to strengthen and streamline their communication with their dogs and maximize training time. What should you bring? Nothing, everything will be provided. Just come ready to have fun and learn!

Reluctant to cut your dog's nails? Are you aware that most dogs need a nail trim every 3 weeks? Come and learn how to identify the quick, how to safely trim without cutting into the quick and how to therapeutically trim to push the quick back. There will be visual references in the first portion of this clinic as well as a discussion on the importance of short nails.

Complimentary nail trims on agreeable dogs will be offered to help you learn. Bring your dog. Bring treats. Sometimes it can be a process!

*Dogs that are opposed to the process will not be able to receive a trim at this clinic. We can offer resources for these over-concerned canines.

CGC, CGCA, TKN, TKI, TKA, TKP, and TKE testing are typically scheduled together in a single session. If the test you are interested in is full please continue to register for that test and join the waitlist. Capacities between the tests in a single session may be adjusted to accommodate the specific tests people have registered for.

Testing begins at 4:00 PM and will continue until all participants present have completed testing. Participants should plan to be checked in and ready to test at the 4:00 PM start time. Because the total testing time depends on attendance and test types, arrivals after 4:00 PM may limit testing availability.

Placement Test: Find Your Dog’s Perfect Class Match!

Brand new to the club but your dog already has some training experience elsewhere? That’s what our Placement Test is for! Our evaluator will walk you and your dog through a few simple exercises to gauge their current training level, focus, and confidence, and help determine which OCC class is the best fit.

    Why take a Placement Test?

    • Ensures your dog is in the right class for their skill level

    • Sets you both up for success and fun

    • Saves time and frustration (no jumping ahead or getting stuck behind!)

It’s not about passing or failing—it’s about finding the perfect spot so you and your furry friend can make the most of your training journey.

The CGC Program is a two-part program that is designed to:

    1. Teach responsible dog ownership to owners
    2. Certify dogs that have the training and behaviors needed to be reliable, well-behaved members of their families and communities

Dogs who pass the CGC test have demonstrated they are under good control and are safe around people and other dogs. The purpose of the CGC Program is to ensure that our favorite companion, the dog, can be a respected member of the community because it has been trained to be well behaved in the home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs.

Training is fun, training changes your relationship with your dog and training changes your dog.  But is training enough?  Do you have behavioral concerns beyond the scope of obedience exercises?  Come to this informative clinic, offered once a session to discuss relevant treatment plans to help shape your canine's behavior.  Housetraining, Stealing Objects, Counter-Cruising, Excessive Barking, Door Greetings, Jumping up, Toys and Inappropriate Chewing, are just a few of the subjects on the table.  This Clinic is purely a Q&A.  Your questions will be answered by our Certified Master Trainer and animal behavior expert. Attendees are not required to stay for the entire clinic once their concern has been addressed.  Come and go as you please.  This Workshop is for humans only, but dogs may attend if they remain manageable during discussions.  While we may discuss Reactivity, Human-directed Aggression and Dog-to-Dog Aggression, we regret that these dogs cannot attend the discussion.
